500 Word Draft Text

The building allocated in the environment is a series of bones-like structures, sticking out from the ground. Architects and their works that have influenced the building are, Frank Gehry and his work, the ‘Guggeinheim Musuem’, in Bilbao, Spain (1991), and Renzo Piano and his work, ‘Menil Collection’ in Houston, Texas (1981-1986)

Frank Gehry is a modernist architect whom interpreted modernism through abstract ideas in the shape of buildings, and his new idea in the expression of construction. Gehry accentuated modernist architecture through honesty of the use of materials, in which he used metal sheets, drywall wooden panels and stud frames, in which they were deliberately left ‘un-touched’ showing the process of construction of the building. Such architectural works depicting this is the ‘Guggeinheim Museum’ in Bilbao, Spain (1991), constructed from stainless steel and evoked the use of curvatures and his abstract ideas in his work conveying abstract structure through the use of curves.
Gehry has influenced the ‘building’ as the building, much like ‘Guggeinheim Musuem’, the use of abstract structure through the use of curves, in which also represents and resembles a bone-like structure.

Renzo Piano has influenced the building through his architectural ideas, such as in his work on the ‘Menil Collection’ in Houston, Texas (1981-1986), which was described as “high craft and high tech”(1). The building, constructed from steel frames, used roofing shaped as ‘leafs’ which controlled the temperature of the building, filtering heat. Piano expressed the effects of technology on the climate and lighting effects on the building, as he quotes,
“I feel that one needs to invent something new but at the same time quite old within our craft”.(2)
This statement evokes Pianos use of classical architecture, using the techniques of ‘repetition’, as well as of his use of modern architecture, involving the use of technology to overcome issues related to climate and lighting effecting on the building.
Piano has influenced the ‘building’, such as through his use of classical architecture, involving the use of ‘repetition’, in which the building uses a repetition of the same looking bone-like building with different height, scale and width.

The building has been constructed with a thick layer of concrete on the out of the building, and a layer of ‘beige’ coloured painting over the top of it, to evoke the sense of a bone-like structure. The construction of the building, in which uses concrete, is also influenced by Renzo Piano, as his works overcome issues such as climate and lighting effects on the building. Due to the building being located in a warm and dry location such as the desert, the building keeps the heat out through the thick layers of concrete, helping to keep the inside the building cool. The building also doesn’t have any windows, which also helps filter the heat out of the building, as it stops the strong heat-rays of the sun, which is overwhelming in the desert, out of the building.

Basic Poster Grid

Proposal:
In my draft version of my basic poster grid, i have incorporated numerous round circles, in which is where the photos of the creature's building will go. In use of the numerous round circles, it incorporates both styles of Renzo Piano, and Frank Gehry, in which i have incorporated Piano's styles of 'repetition', and Gehry's style of 'curvatures'.
The background of the poster will be an image of the creature with the building in the backdrop, as well as texts below each pictures. The heading will be located at the top of the poster.

Renzo Piano, Menil Collection, Houston

(1)
Renzo Piano was born in Genoa, Italy in 1937. He was born into a family of builders, as his grandfather, father, brother and uncles were all contractors. He studied at Milan Poitechnic Architecture School.

(2)
"One of his most famous museum is De Menil Collection in Houston, Texas. It was in 1982, that art collector Dominique de Menil contacted Renzo Piano to design a museum for her collection, which embodied more than 10 000 works of primitive and modem art. The museum was intended also as a centre for music, literature, theatre and cultural educational activities. It is located in a small park surrounded by low residential housing, and it is characteristic because of its simplicity, flexibility, open spaces and illumination with natural light Renzo Piano designed special roof of ,.leaves" of thin ferrocement which lets the light inside the exhibition rooms and to which additional liqhts could be easily attached."(3)
Renzo Piano's work 'Menil Collection' explored the themes of modernist architecture as well as classical architecture, accentuating modernistic characteristics, such as the involvement of light, space and climate in his building. Classical architectural characteristic involves the use of 'repetition' which can be found in his repetitive use of the 'leave' roof.

Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Musuem, Bilbao

(1)
Frank Gehry was an american architect born on the 28th of February, 1929. Frank Gehry was an architect that looked towards 'modernist' and 'avant garde' architecture.

(2)
"The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao by Frank Gehry was probably the most often mentioned new building of 1998 and 1999 in architecture circles. The composition continues a curvaceous, free-form sculptural style that has become a Gehry signature. The abstract, free-form components of this style were present in the early Gehry house, and a similarly sleek curvaceous cladding was displayed in the sculptural fish of the Fishdance Restaurant."(3)
'Guggenheim Museum', located in Bilbao, Spain, was completed in 1997. Gehry designed the museum through sketches, as he did in all his past works, but through technology was he able to achieve "eccentric shapes, sweeping irregular curves that were the antithesis of the severely rectilinear International Style."(4)

Proposal:
The allocated environment for 'Flesh'N'bone', is a desert, in which his dwelling is a bunch of large bones sticking out from the ground. Flesh'N'bone is able to survive in this dwelling, as he is ery quick, and is a very good climber, being able to climb up the large bones avoiding any danger. He is able to also hide from his victims, and pounce on his preys that enter his territory. Their is also a oasis located below his dwellings, in which he goes down to drink water. The texture used is beige-like colour to accentuate the 'bone' structure.

Purposal:
The chosen dwelling for Bone'N'Flesh is a bunch of bones shooting out from the ground, almost as if its a skeletal of a whale. I believe it would suit well in this dwelling, as it would be able to climb up almost anywhere with its claw-like feet, and reach the top of the bones, allowing it to escape from any danger. His dwelling is also located above the oasis, as he would jump down the cliffs and drink, and jump back up.

Proposal:
The allocated environment for the 'Bush', is a forest, in which he is able to camouflage with the surrounding trees and bushes and survive from predators. He dwells in a little round house-like building, in which is covered with the textures of leafy/grass, in which also camouflages with the surrounding environment, as well as the 'bush'. It is able to keep away from direct sunlight under the roof, however when it is raining, it simply walks down below the edge of the roof, and as the roof has a curvature shape, the rain will simply drop onto the 'bush'. This building supports his lazy attribute.

Sketchup/Sandbox - Bush environment draft

Proposal:
This version of the Bush's habitat/dwelling, is his dwelling is a spiral-shaped building, which starts from the bottom of his body, up to where the trees end. The purpose of this is for when it rains, the water will trickle down the spiral and land below his body, allowing his body to absorb the water, which supports his attribute of being lazy. There is also a gap above him, which also allows rain to directly fall on top of him. The texture of the building is a leafy, grassy texture, which contributes to camouflaging with the environment, as well as the 'Bush'.

Proposal:
The dwelling of the 'Bush' is a large dome-like structure, which is covered in grass/leaves as well as vines that circulate around the structure. As the Bush survives through camouflaging with the surrounding environment, it is important for Bush's dwelling to also camouflage with the surrounding environment, as well as 'Bush' itself, as than there would be no point if the dwelling and the creature contrasts each other. In camouflaging with each other, it helps the 'bush' to survive in the wild.

Spore Creature Creations

Bush: The Bush lives in the forest, in which it uses its leaf-covered body to camouflage with the surrounding bushes to survive. It feeds on insects and vegetation, so had no trouble keeping itself alive through relation to food supplies, as there are plenty of leaves he can feed himself on around him. The leafs on his body all have muscles attached to his main body, and he moves through the leaves located on the bottom, which he slides across the ground. The Bush is very lazy, and likes to spend itself located in one spot, and feeding itself from the leaves around him, and occasionally would he move to rec

Golden Armour: The Golden Armour can live practically anywhere, as it is adepts well to any environment. He has one large eye located on the top of his head, which allows him to see in a large-degree around him. His body has many shield-like shells attached to him, which protects him from any physical harm. He also has two large shields on his hand, which he uses for both defense and offense. The Golden Armour is practically invulnerable from any physical harm, and is able to survive almost anywhere, hence allows him to suit any environment. He eats through his mouth, which is locate in between his tiny shield-like scale on his body.

Diamond Monkey: The diamond monkey lives in the forest, in which there is lots of trees. Its hobbies are swinging from tree to tree, and playing around with its mates. It eats insects and leafs, and drinks water from nearby lakes and ponds. The diamond monkey, however is endangered, due to hunting from humans, having very expensive pure diamonds attached to the end of their tails, which the diamond monkey uses to carve, break things, and also uses for defense, as the diamond is very strong and invulnerable to any physical harm.

Flesh'N'Bone: Flesh'N'Bone lives in the desert, and can survive without eating and drinking anything for months, as it eats a lot during a period, and stores all the additional food inside its body, which he can eat and get all the nutrition from it when he needs it. It is a carnivore, and lives off from eating desert-dwelling creatures, like scorpions, lizards, camels, etc, and resides near an oasis. The Flesh'N'Bone has many bones sticking out of its body, which acts as a shield, and also has a bone on the end of its tail for offense. It also has a sharp beak, in which it uses to shred its victim into pieces and eating it. It is very fast, and when hungry, is able to have a feast very easily when it finds its victim.

Cyborg: Cyborg is a mythical creature, which is half biological and half mechanical. The Cyborg has very good hearing, as it has a tube-like ear, in which he uses to capture and locate its victims. It is a carnivore, and uses its sharp claw-like hands, as well as its spiky tail to attack and kill its victim. The cyborg hops to move around, almost like a kangaroo, yet is very fast. Although the cyborg doesn't have much defensive attributes, it still survives very well, due to its strong offensive attributes, as well as it being able to locate things from afar through its ears, and eyes. It lives in the desert, and sometimes moves to urban places, such as the city, as it is able to fix itself if need-be, through electrical appliances.
